The 345th Bomb Group was first activated at Columbia Army Air Base, SC, in November 1942. These "Air Apaches" operated primarily in the Southwest Pacific Theater, flying the B-25 Mitchell medium bomber. They quickly transitioned from a medium altitude bomber to the low level bomber/strafer that they became so known for. The 345th was awarded four Distinguished Unit Citations and is one of the most decorated units of WWII. Read more about our Unit by clicking on the History tab above.
